Square Enix Does Not Plan To Release Anymore Kingdom Hearts Games On a SWITCH

Tetsuya Nomura confirms that, for now, the Nintendo console will only receive Melody of Memory

One of the hallmarks of Kingdom Hearts is its multiplatform character because although it was born as a PlayStation 2 exclusive over the years new installments have been published on different consoles. After its passage through PS2, PS3, PS4, Gameboy Advance, PSP, mobile devices, Xbox One, Nintendo DS, and 3DS, Switch will be the next console to receive a game in the series directed by Tetsuya Nomura.

However, fans who had hopes of being able to play other titles in the series on Switch have found themselves with a song in their teeth, as Square Enix does not plan to launch more Kingdom Hearts video games on Nintendo\’s hybrid machine. This news has been officially confirmed by Nomura himself through an interview with the Nintendo Enthusiast medium.


According to the Japanese, at first, the idea of ​​developing ports of existing games of the saga had been considered, but it was finally discarded due to the technical difficulties that would entail carrying them out. Despite this, Nomura added that the Nintendo Switch is a very interesting console where he always wanted to do something. And although he cannot talk about other Square Enix games in which he has not participated, the creative dropped that there is the possibility that another of his works could be launched on this platform.

Unless there is a major turn in the course of events, the Nintendo Switch catalog will only receive one game in the series: Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory. This title will combine action and rhythm and will be released worldwide, also for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 13.
